Listening to Bridges

Volunteer readers from Gujarat’s H.M. Patel Institute of English Training & Research, including the Institute’s highly respected Director, Dr. Rajendrasinh Jadeja, have supplied the voices for these readings from Bridges: Activities for Thinking, Speaking, & Writing English. Many stories in Bridges are divided into two parts. We recommend that you always allow students time to read the text themselves. However, before reading Part 2 of a story, you may wish to review Part 1 with one of these audio files. Download all 10 files at once or listen to individual recordings online.

Be sure to allow students time to read Part 1 on their own and then do the language task. Before reading Part 2, review what happened in Part 1 by playing the audio file for students.
Students benefit by listening to different voices and accents. Download the files to provide variety in your classes.
“The Water Barrel” is a long reading and is divided into three parts. We’ve provided audio of Parts 1 and 2 to use as a review after students read on their own and do the language tasks.
If you invent language tasks to go with the listening files, please let us know. We’d love to share your experience with other teachers.
